| Atlanta Braves History:
The first professional baseball team in the world was the Cincinnati Red Stockings, formed in 1869. The name of this team has resulted in today's Cincinnati Reds and Boston Red Sox, but the Atlanta Braves are this team's direct descendant. In 1871 the Red Stockings moved to Boston as members of the new National Association of Professional Base Ball Players. In 1875, the National Association folded, to be replaced the following year by today's National League. In 1883, the team was renamed the "Beaneaters", (to avoid confusion with the Cincinnati Reds of the American Association), in 1907 they became the "Doves", and in 1912 adopted the name "Braves" (although they were known as the "Bees" from 1936-41). The Braves moved to Milwaukee in 1953, and to Atlanta in 1966, when Henry Aaron led the league with 44 homers and 127 RBIs.
