| Chicago Cubs History:
On April 25, 1876, the Chicago White Stockings played their first game under manager A.G. Spalding. They were one of eight charter members of the new National League that had been formed by the White Stockings' owner/president William A. Hulbert. In 1902 a local paper began calling the team the "Cubs", due to their young roster, and in 1907 the name was officially adopted. In 1916 Charles Weeghman bought the Cubs after the Federal League of his own Chicago Whales went bankrupt, and moved them to the Whales' "Weeghman Field", built in 1913-14. Chewing gum maker William Wrigley bought out Charles Weeghman in 1920, and Weeghman Field became known as Cubs Park until 1926, when the name was changed to Wrigley Field.
