| Los Angeles Dodgers History:
In 1890, their first season in the league, the Brooklyn "Bridegrooms" won the National League championship with an 86-43 record. Among other monickers, the Brooklyn ballclub was referred to as the "Trolley Dodgers" because of the complex maze of trolley cars that overlaid Brooklyn. The name was then shortened to just "Dodgers." On October 8, 1957, Dodgers president Walter O'Malley announced that after 68 seasons in Brooklyn, the Dodgers would move to Los Angeles (the Giants moved the same year to San Francisco). April 18, 1958, the Dodgers played their first game in Los Angeles, defeating the Giants 6-5 before 78,672 fans at the LA Coliseum.
