| Cleveland Indians History:
The Cleveland Indians came into being in 1901 as an American league charter franchise. First called the Blues, then the Bronchos, Cleveland became the Naps when Nap Lajoie was acquired in 1902. Cleveland took on the name "Indians" in 1915, (after the nickname taken by the city's old NL club upon the arrival of Native American player Louis Sockalexis in 1897). The golden age of Cleveland baseball dawned on June 21, 1946, when Bill Veeck purchased the club from Alva Bradley.
