Anna Kournikova, considered to be the next teen phenom headed for the pro tour, won her opening-round match in the junior event. Kournikova, who lives in Bradenton and trains at the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy, got by Sweden's Kristina Triska 6-4, 6-2. The top-seeded Kournikova plays unseeded Jessica Steck next.

In the juniors division, teen star and top seed Anna Kournikova of Bradenton was upset by unseeded Jessica Steck 6-4, 6-4 in a second-round match.

Mariano Zabaleta of Argentina and Anna Kournikova of Russia established themselves Sunday as the world's top junior tennis players by capturing titles at the Rolex Orange Bowl International Championships at Miami Beach. Zabaleta beat Tommy Haas of Germany 6-2, 3-6, 6-1. Kournikova defeated Sandra Nacuk of Yugoslavia 6-3, 6-2. Zabaleta and Kournikova lost in the finals of last year's Orange Bowl.
