On March 8, Anna and Martina withdrew from doubles at the Pacific Life Open at Indian Wells, CA, because Martina found she was suffering from tendonitis in her right wrist during practice.

In mid-May, Martina Hingis was found to have 1 torn and 3 loose ligaments in her left ankle, which required surgery on May 20th. Martina was also suffering from persistent pain and inflammation problems. Martina returned to play at the Rogers AT&T Cup in Montreal, and to doubles at the US Open.
