In mid-May, Martina Hingis was found to have 1 torn and 3 loose ligaments in her left ankle, which required surgery on May 20th. Martina was also suffering from persistent pain and inflammation problems. Martina returned to play at the Rogers AT&T Cup in Montreal, and to doubles at the US Open.
